Niagara College of Applied Arts and Technology
Our partnership with Niagara College has resulted in the mapping and analysis of several stretches of Twelve Mile Creek. Students in the Environmental Restoration Program have provided detailed analysis of the stream, outlining where restoration of Brook Trout is feasible and what must be done to enhance the watershed sufficiently to sustain them. Students from the Geographic Information Systems Program, working with their colleagues in the E.R. Program, have mapped and researched the watershed, providing historical context and data analysis. This ongoing relationship with these programs and their professors has provided the Niagara Chapter with invaluable information in the form of thorough and detailed reports on each stretch. The students have benefited from taking on a real world project for a client, providing bi-weekly progress reports and a final document that impressively demonstrates their professionalism. |
Niagara Peninsula Conservation Authority
The NPCA has been an enthusiastic partner since the beginning of our Chapter. Our volunteers have assisted with several NPCA projects, including the construction of erosion control fascines and the production of the Twelve Mile Creek Landowners' Guide. In the Chapter's efforts to enhance the watershed by converting top draw dams to bottom draw, the NPCA provided expertise and financial assistance. Several NPCA personnel have become members of our Chapter and have participated enthusiastically in our various activities. We are in the process of developing new partnership principles with NPCA as a result of significant changes to their structure, but anticipate a close working relationship going forward. |
Niagara Restoration Council
The NRC is a well established member of the Niagara conservation community, undertaking restoration and conservation projects throughout the Region. Our partnership with this organization draws on their expertise in grant applications and project management. TUC supplies a well known conservation presence, charitable status, and eager volunteers to the partnership and together we have raised significant funds from a variety of granting agencies for work specifically on the Twelve Mile Creek headwaters. |
Ontario Power Generation
As a landowner and user of Twelve Mile Creek, OPG has been very responsive to helping with several of the projects we have undertaken. They have provided financial support for the development of our Twelve Mile Creek Landowners' Guide and have participated in the visioning exercise that guides our activities. OPG has promised to be receptive to helping with further projects in the future. |
Calamus Winery
Pat Latin and Derek Saunders, the owners of Calamus Winery on Glen Road in Jordan, have been very generous in providing comfortable space in their restored winery barn for our Chapter meetings and other events. They host our annual Healing Waters program, providing a homey and relaxed setting for dinners, presentations, and fly tying. Nestled in the valley of the Twenty Mile Creek, their winery is an ideal location for our members to gather. |

Sister Chapters
We have had the benefit of advice, assistance, and encouragement from our Trout Unlimited sister Chapters. It is particularly significant that we are developing a relationship with the Western NY Chapter of TU, since this is the first example of cross-border co-operation between Trout Unlimited and Trout Unlimited Canada. The Ted Knott and Greg Clark Chapters have been instrumental in getting us underway, sending representatives to our formative meetings, lending expertise and experience, and helping out at our Healing Waters day. We hope to develop and strengthen each of these relationships through exchange of information, volunteering on each others' projects, and attendance at fund raising and other events.
